
LWI Helmet
The LWI (Light Weight Infantry) helmet is a modern ballistic combat helmet designed to protect soldiers from bullet fragments, shrapnel, and blunt-force impact, while being significantly lighter and more comfortable than older steel or heavy composite helmets. It's built using aramid fibers (like Kevlar or Twaron) or ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), giving it high strength-to-weight ratio ballistic protection suitable for prolonged wear in combat conditions.
Key Features
- Ballistic Protection-Shields against bullet fragments, shrapnel, and in many modern variants, direct hits from pistol rounds or even rifle-caliber threats (e.g., AK-47 7.62×39mm mild steel core rounds), with limited "back face deformation" to reduce blunt trauma.
- Four-Point (or more) Retention System-An adjustable chin-strap harness that secures the helmet firmly to the head, improving stability during movement, unlike older two-point straps.
- Impact-Absorbing Interior Padding-Adjustable foam or gel padding system inside the shell that cushions the head, improves fit across different head sizes, and reduces trauma from blunt impacts.
- Lightweight Composite Shell-Made from aramid fiber or UHMWPE composite material, cutting weight compared to older steel/PASGT helmets (often around 1.2–1.5 kg), reducing neck strain and fatigue.
- Modular Accessory Rails/Mounts - Side and front rails or shrouds for attaching night-vision goggles (NVGs), tactical lights, communication headsets, and visors-enabling mission-specific customization.
